The Powers that be
Ernesto has the power of controllable astral projection. He basically can pull his soul out of his body and travel to other people's bodies and control them, or observe others in his soul form where he is completely invisible to most eyes. The only catch is that while his soul is outside of his body, it is relatively easy to kill him, so he usually leaves his body in really weird places that are hard to find.
When You Were Young
Ever since he was a small child in Rio, Ernesto grew up around music. His mother, Margarita, was a small-time singer who traveled around with his father Vincento, a piano player, performing at various venues, restaurants, and bars throughout the city. Despite this musical inclination in his family, however, Ernesto had always been a dancer at heart. His mother joked that he had been able to dance before he could walk, and he used to love watching old recordings of El Cachafaz on the television, fascinated by the quick movements, the rhythm, and the perfect synchronization of the tango dancers.

Ernesto was enrolled in dance lessons from his youth, his parents recognizing the great talent he possessed for it and encouraging his passion. He excelled in the art of tango, in particular, and when he was only 15 years old, Ernesto was already participating in live performances with the other, older dancers in his company. This did not come without a price, however. Vincento was unable to support the expensive hobby of his son's with only the salary that he and his wife made, especially as they were getting older and past their musical prime. Unbeknownst to his family, Vincento fell in with a bad group of Rio loan sharks, and eventually the debt was so monstrous that it seemed there was no chance of ever repaying it. Depressed at his inability to serve as the man of the house, Ernesto's father chose the cowardly way out and shot himself, leaving Ernesto and Margarita, with only a maudlin farewell letter, to fend for themselves, with Ernesto only 17 years old.

It was then that Margarita fell into silence. Since Vincento's death, she has not uttered a word. Assuming responsibility, Ernesto promised the loan sharks that he would repay the debt, nearly 550 thousand Brazilian reals [about 250,000 USD], within 7 years. He worked three side-jobs to pay for his dancing, dropped out of regular school, and eventually made it big in the world of dance at the age of 22. Despite being famous throughout Brazil, however, Ernesto actually does not receive that much money from his performances, having not been educated enough to understand all the fine print of his contract. Now 23 years old and the debt's payment deadline less than a year away, he still has over 200 thousand reals to pay.

Since becoming a famous dancer, Ernesto has decided that men are inherently evil. After witnessing the brutality of the loan sharks, who have threatened to kill both him and his mother, and watching the money-hungry people in his own business, Ernesto is disgusted by what he's seen. He discovered his power of astral projection by accident one day, while taking a nap after a tough performance, and often uses it to try and escape his life. He is, as of yet, unaware of his fate as an angel of Rio.
The Animal I Have Become
Ernesto's greatest qualities are his perseverance and strength in adversity. He never backs down from a challenge and would never go the suicide route, having seen what his mother had to go through after his father went that road. He is extremely devoted to things that he loves and believes in, especially tango. However, as a result of this, Ernesto can be rather impulsive and quick to jump to conclusions without hearing the entire story.

Also, he can be pretty serious since his life hasn't really enabled him to enjoy himself much. Ernesto can even appear stern and harsh to those who don't know him well. He really forgets to relax, which causes him to stress out unnecessarily. He is very work-oriented, and only lets himself go once the jobs are done.

His only hope and dream now, since he has achieved the goal of fame, is for his mother to speak again. She has become somewhat catatonic since his father's death, and Ernesto would like nothing more than for her to return to the way she used to be.
Frozen on the Outside
Ernesto is a tall, slightly tan young man with dirty blond hair which is usually messy and tousled to look like he just rolled out of bed, and eyes that range from amber to hazel in color depending on the lighting. He doesn't really like to worry about his appearance; hence he can usually be seen wearing just slacks and a t-shirt when he is not dancing. When he is performing or is in the presence of reporters or other media persons, Ernesto usually wears very extravagant silk shirts and black pants as is the custom of tango dancers.

In front of his fans, he tends to act very bubbly and kind, not wanting to have them to have a bad impression of him as they are his main source of income. However, when among people he knows or people who aren't part of the tango world, Ernesto appears very stern and annoyed, his eyebrows usually furrowed in frustration at something that no one can understand. It's not that he is an irritable person at all; he just is rather serious and when not pressured by cameras and paparazzi, his typical face can be misconstrued.
